The American Goldfinch Gathers in flocks in seed-bearing trees, bushes and weedy fields. Consumes thistles, sunflowers and dandelions. The male species are bright yellow with black cap. Females and young can be recognized by their unstreaked back and breast, wing bars, notched tail and whitish rump. Males in the winter resemble females. Their song is long, high and sweet. Their call, per-chik-o-ree, is characteristic of this species.
